Our Story

Where to start?

The Seated Gun was not something that came about through planning, it came about following spare time pre, post and during covid, and following several conversations that there was nothing out there in the market that did what I was asking about.

So, the concept was born, to provide an unbiased, true and reflective experience of not just shooting estates but products and everything shooting related.

Although I have always been involved some way or another with shooting, whether as a young boy carrying cartridges for my grandfather or on have a go clay days. Shooting was always something that was a piece of the jigsaw that fitted within a life of working, gyming, riding motorbikes and partying! and something that I did “as and when”. That changed however following my motorbike accident. As someone who was and is massively into health and sport, I wanted a sport I could do without it being “special”. I didn’t want to play wheelchair rugby or wheelchair basketball; I'd never been interested in either pre my accident so why would I want to play them now just because I was in a wheelchair. I wanted a sport that regardless of being stood, or sat it was a level playing field, and that’s how shooting came back into my life in a big way!

From starting back shooting clays in my spare time, to introducing my wife to the sport and watching her excel as a naturally talented shot. It dawned on me that shooting was pretty much the only sport that regardless of anyone’s personal situation, you could compete on a level playing field, after all clays or birds don’t adjust their flight line because your sat down, 7ft tall or laying on your back! For me however, patience is not a strong point, so it wasn’t long before I was bored of shooting clays and wanted something more challenging, I wanted to be visiting different areas of the country, experiencing and seeing amazing topography and above all not knowing what I was going to be challenged by next. As someone who has always loved the countryside it seemed a normal next stage therefore to get back into game shooting, something I’d dabbled in but by no means was an expert in.

And so, the journey started………..

I once asked an extremely talented game shot how he became so good, his simple answer was “spend £250K  year for ten years and you might just be ok” he meant it in a head in hands sort of way rather than a bragging way, however that got me thinking, what if there was a platform that enabled people of all abilities to see and experience a shoot before they booked. It could help in marrying the gun and his / her abilities with the right shoot, and therefore you could pick your shoot on your ability. That teamed with a presence on the world of social media channels like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube and The Seated Gun persona was born.

We’ve grown considerably since the early days and are now proud ambassadors of several of the biggest names and brands within the shooting industry, with the simple philosophy “if we wouldn’t spend our own money on it we wouldn’t recommend it”.

With films being launched every other Friday on our YouTube channel and regular images captured by our official photographer Tom Gibson on our Instagram page. We are proud to have audiences worldwide with regular viewing figures reaching hundreds of thousands every month.

And all because we had a bit of spare time in covid………..

We hope you enjoy our website, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube channels, and remember to make sure you’re following and subscribed.
